Khudian Khas Weather During Summer
Khudian Khas experiences extreme summer conditions, with temperatures often soaring above 45°C (113°F). This intense heat is primarily driven by a local weather phenomenon known as the loo—a dry, scorching wind that blows across the plains of Punjab and northern India during the peak summer months, typically from May to June. The loo originates from the hot deserts of Balochistan and Rajasthan and carries with it a parching heat that significantly raises daytime temperatures, sometimes reaching as high as 47°C to 49°C (115°F to 120°F).
This fierce wind not only intensifies the heat but also causes the moisture in the air and soil to evaporate rapidly, creating extremely dry and dusty conditions. As a result, vegetation in the region begins to wither, fields dry up, and even mature trees may shed their leaves prematurely to conserve moisture. The landscape takes on a parched and brown appearance, reflecting the severity of the climate.
Health-wise, the loo poses serious risks to the local population. Prolonged exposure can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and in severe cases, heatstroke—a potentially fatal condition if not treated promptly. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are particularly at risk during this time. To combat these conditions, residents traditionally rely on cooling drinks like lassi, sattu, and rose water sherbets, and take measures to stay indoors during peak hours. The months of May and June in Khudian Khas are, therefore, a test of endurance, as the population waits for the relief brought by the monsoon rains in July.
Khudian Khas is surrounded by lush green fields and this greenery has played its role in keeping the pollution under control in area. So this is a blessing for this towns. There are around 14 Government schools in this town and one higher secondary school/ college. It has one associate college for women.
